Production of Light Aircraft Fuel in Iran
WANA (May 25) – For the first time in Iran, the Abadan Oil Refinery has successfully produced high-quality fuel for light aircraft using a new, domestically developed formulation.
The CEO of Abadan Oil Refining Company announced that this achievement came in response to a request from the Civil Aviation Organization and aimed to address the aviation fuel imbalance faced by Iran’s airline sector. According to Fardin Rashidi, after conducting laboratory studies and research, a prototype of the fuel was delivered to the Civil Aviation Organization for ground and flight tests, eventually receiving final approval.
Rashidi stated: “The new formula not only offers higher quality compared to previous versions, but also reduces environmental pollution as it is free from sulfur compounds.”
Referring to the sanctions and import restrictions on aircraft parts in Iran, the CEO emphasized that domestic production of this fuel plays a vital role in sustaining air transport and helps prevent damage to aircraft fuel systems and engines.
He further announced that, given the airline industry’s annual demand of over one million liters of this fuel, mass production has begun. The first batch will be ready for delivery to the Civil Aviation Organization within a month, using existing refinery infrastructure, including storage tanks for industrial solvents.
Reports indicate that the Abadan Refinery’s alkylation unit is the only industrial facility in Iran capable of supplying the strategic raw materials required for this type of fuel, and no other refinery in the country has succeeded in producing it so far.
This achievement comes as the refinery’s field and research laboratories—part of the 120-year-old facility—played a key role in developing the new fuel formula.
